Section members have been awarded over £300,000 to investigate the role of microcephaly genes in cancer with the award of a Breast Cancer Campaign grant to Dr Sandra Bell and Dr Val Speirs and a Yorkshire Cancer Research grant to Dr Ewan Morrison, Dr Sandra Bell and Dr Jacqui Bond.
Award of an MRC project grant to Dr Colin Johnson to study the Meckel-Gruber syndrome proteins mekelin and MKS1.
Award of a fellowship from the Charitable Trustees of Leeds NHS Trust to Dr Aine Rice to study the genetic basis of strabismus.
Award of a project grant from the Parkinson's Disease Society to Dr Philip Robinson to study the effects of alpha-synuclein and environmental toxins on mitochondrial function.
Award of a Wellcome Trust project grant to Dr Alan Mighell to investigate a possible link between tooth and eye development.
Prof Inglehearn also collaborated with an Edinburgh based group who determined the consequences in yeast of mutations which cause blindness in humans, and in so doing identified an important step in spliceosome assembly.
