Lymphoma Pathology
Our group has continued to participate with the International Lymphoma Classification Project which continues to accrue epidemiological data on the incidence of lymphoma subtypes in different geographic locations. Striking differences have emerged which are being investigated by collaborators at the NCI in the United States.
We have actively collaborated with the International Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma Project which was designed to collect the largest total of peripheral T- cell lymphomas with full clinical details. Cases were accrued from North America, Europe and the Far East. Leeds was the coordinating centre for European cases and was directed by Professor Mac Lennan. The results of this, the largest study into subtypes and outcome of peripheral T-cell lymphoma, were presented last year at the American Society of Haematology and will be published in the near future.
Head and Neck Cancer Pathology
We continue to prospectively accrue data on head and neck cancer, investigating patterns of spread and pathological parameters of prognostic significance. Over the past several years a number of publications relating to pathological assessment of lymph node disease within neck dissections have been presented.
Prof. MacLennan is also involved in central review of a number of national clinical trials in malignant lymphomas, thyroid cancer and head and neck cancer.
